Meet the Founder of Juneteenth of
Thomasville-Thomas County Foundation Inc.
Ucher Thomas-Dent is founder and co-coordinator of the Juneteenth of Thomasville-Thomas County Freedom Festival and the founder of No More Shackles Empowerment Mentoring Program Inc. both are 501c3 non-profit organizations in Thomasville, Ga. In 2017, while seeking God about the assignment/direction of No More Shackles Empowerment Mentoring Program Inc), Ucher stumbled upon information about Juneteenth (Emancipation Day/ Freedom Day or Jubilee). Reading the information, she realized that Juneteenth wasn't just a celebration, but a movement of True Freedom and Unity. Ucher traveled to different Juneteenth celebrations in South Georgia to study more about the subject. In 2019, she decided to bring this great celebration to Thomasville, Ga in collaboration with Douglass High School Alumni Association Inc, One Heartbeat Inc, Thomas County Branch of the NAACP and the City of Thomasville. Over 300 people showed up for the event. Every Juneteenth of Thomasville-Thomas County Freedom Festival has grown in participation and attendance with last year's attendance growing well over 750 people and 80 vendors.
Ucher is a member of the Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc, Kappa Psi Sigma Alumnae Chapter in Valdosta, Ga. Ucher received a Bachelor of Science degree in Rehabilitation Counseling and Masters of Science Degree in Community Counseling from Thomas University. Mrs. Dent is also a graduate of Zion Christian Bible Institute and was ordained as a Minister 2014. Ucher is a positive community advocate who is involved in several community projects and organizations such as Thomas County Family Connections, Thomas County Chapter of Coalition of the Prevention of Child Abuse, Team Leader for Project Backyard Outreach Ministries, Vice President of the Douglass High School AlumniAm Association, Asst. Secretary for the Thomas County Branch of the NAACP. Currently, Ucher works as a Forensic Community Coordinator for the Ga. Dept. Behavior Health and Developmental Disabilities. Mrs. Dent is also a Licensed Professional Counselor with the State of Georgia, Board Certified Christian Counselor, CertifiedAnger Management Specialist, Certified Reentry Specialist, and a Certified Masters Addiction Counselor. She has received the following honors in 2022 Hands on Thomas County Heroes - Honorable Mention, The Arrington Foundation Trailblazer Award, The Zion Bible Ministry Humanitarian Award and The Community Impact Awards - Thomas County Woman of the Year. She was a Grand Marshal for The Thomasville Black History Parade as well as the Thomasville Rose Show Parade.
Passionate, driven, and hardworking are just a few of the words to describe Ucher. Known as much for her efforts in the local community as she is for being the pioneering mind behind the birth of Juneteenth of Thomasville-Thomas County Foundation Inc. Ucher is also passionate about her family and motivated by uplifting people around her and helping them maximize their full authentic potential.
