Each year the Juneteenth of Thomasville- Thomas County Foundation Inc along with DHSAA, NAACP and One Heartbeat Inc along with other partnerships, hosts a Juneteenth Freedom Festival and Celebration on the Saturday before June 19. , It is free and open to the public, with activities geared toward family participation, community unification, and good old fashioned fun. This fun-filled, educational, and uplifting event kicks off with the official Opening Ceremony that includes songs, prayer, proclamations, and presentations on the origin and significance of Juneteenth.
Entertainment throughout the day will feature local performers and artists. Vendors selling an array of African and African-American clothing, art and artifacts, specialty items, crafts, and delicious foods. The Children’s Village will compose of games, face painting, crafts and other fun, educational activities and information.
The Health Fair includes blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes, and HIV screenings. Medical professionals from area health centers and hospitals are available for consultations.
Organizations will have booths to inform the men, women, youth, and families of services (mentoring ,tutoring, mental health, substance abuse, job services, etc.) and activities (summer camp, day camp, after school, athletic teams, etc.) available in Thomasville/Thomas County and surrounding areas.
Experts in their respective fields will provide information, activities and demonstrations. The 5th Annual Juneteenth of Thomasville-Thomas County Freedom Festival Celebration will bring a multitude of organizations and citizens into the community together in an effort to foster connections that will empower and promote unity and equity while uplifting Thomas County as a whole.
